REASONS TO CANCEL A JOB INTERVIEW INSTEAD OF NOT SHOWING UP.

Updated: Nov 9, 2021

The rate of candidates who doesn't show up for job interviews has growing so much that in an article from March 2021, Forbes referred to it as "the ghosting trend" (1). Here, we reflect about the damage caused by this behavior both for recruiters and candidates.

APPLYING FOR A JOB HAS NEVER BEEN SO EASY. IS IT A GOOD THING?

In 2021, job seekers can apply for a job with a unique click using their cell phones. How much do the services cost? Most of them are free.

In February of this year, a report published by Indeed (2) revealed an expressive growth in "no-show, no-call" behavior towards job interviews, which may show that people undervalue what they get with no cost and almost no effort.

"Candidates who don't show up for interviews close doors that would remain open with a message or phone call."

IF YOU ARE A JOB SEEKER, HERE ARE SOME REASONS TO CONTACT THE RECRUITER:

  • It's the right thing to do: treat others as you expect to be treated.

  • In the future, the recruiter may keep you in mind for a position that is a good fit for you. Why burn bridges?

  • The recruiter you ghost today may be working in a different company tomorrow: your paths can cross anytime.

  • Contacting the recruiter to cancel or reschedule an interview will take you a minute or two, and it contributes to your good image in the job market.
